Hybrid eSIM management changes the game

Workz Group's CSO Robert Varty | Workz Group

eSIMs are bringing mobile connectivity to a vast array of devices across both consumer and industrial sectors. By 2025, 2 billion devices are expected to be connected by eSIM.

Robert Varty, Workz Chief Sales Officer, explains how hybrid eSIM management can help you take advantage.

What exactly is hybrid eSIM management?

Essentially it’s two systems in one. Since the GSMA released the first M2M eSIM specification in 2013 and its consumer counterpart three years later, MNOs have needed two systems, one for consumer and one for M2M. Hybrid eSIM management is both. A complete solution. You can now connect to a whole array of consumer and M2M IoT devices, and do it all in one go.

Is it fully certified?

Absolutely, our hybrid eSIM management has been fully certified by the GSMA’s Security Accreditation Scheme for Subscription Management across both consumer and M2M sectors.

Why should I get excited?

Today anything that impacts cost and time efficiency has got to be a good thing. The huge advantage with hybrid eSIM management is you can streamline project set-up time and save associated costs because one solution now connects everything.

What are the platform capabilities?

You get the next-generation of remote SIM provisioning platform. It supports multiple use cases across both consumer and M2M/IoT verticals and you have over-the-air update capabilities for remote management of subscriptions on all eSIM devices. The SM-SR, SM-DP and SM-DP+ components form a complete eSIM management platform based on GSMA specifications.

How hard is it to set up and maintain?

Not hard at all, that’s the great thing. There’s just one hardware setup, one platform to maintain and one cost for everything.

Can I plug and play?

Yes, you have the option of hosting on a GSMA-SAS certified cloud platform and right away you’re ready to go. The platform works on an OPEX model. Everything is covered and you simply pay a monthly fee. This is ideal if you want to avoid high set-up and ongoing maintenance costs.

What if I need more control?

You always have the option of onsite implementation. This involves purchasing hardware, as well as set-up and maintenance, but there are many benefits as well. Depending on your business, onsite may be the best or even the only solution for you.

What are the advantages of an onsite investment?

Unlike with the cloud, you can implement a multi-tenant platform, so you have much greater control. If you’re a mobile network operator with operations in multiple countries, you may also prefer or need to host from one central location, and it allows you to do that.

What about compliance issues?

It may be a legal requirement for you to host in a particular place. Several nations, including Saudi Arabia, India and Egypt, have laws that specify data must be hosted in-country. By having control over where you host, you can always be compliant.

How does Workz help with deployment?

Whether you decide to go with an opex-friendly cloud platform or want to invest in your own SAS-certified implementation, we help you every step of the way. Deployment is surprisingly fast, even for a hosted onsite platform.

How long does it take?

A cloud set up can take as little as just 3-4 weeks, whereas we can usually implement a full turnkey onsite platform in just 6 months. This includes securing fast-track GSMA SAS-certification within that timeframe.

Where can I get hybrid eSIM management?

Right now, only from Workz. Our hybrid eSIM management solution is a world first. We’re also one of only six eSIM providers in the world certified by the GSMA’s Security Accreditation Scheme (SAS) across its full lifecycle management.
