Workz M2M Remote SIM Provisioning Architecture
Here is a quick introduction to the M2M Remote SIM Provisioning Architecture and its key components: eUICC. Starting with the eSIM or more specifically its software the eUICC - This is a secure element that contains one or more network profiles. Each profile enables the eUICC to function in the same way as a traditional removable SIM and connect to a mobile network. Mobile Network. The eUICC contains profiles from Mobile Network Operators which allow the SIM to connect to their cellular networks. EUM. The eUICC is produced by an eUICC manufacturer or EUM who is responsible for the secure upload of the eUICC’s data to the SIM. SM-DP. Subscription Management – Data Preparation is the activity in which network profiles are prepared, packaged and stored SM-SR. Subscription Management – Secure Routing is the activity in which profiles are remotely managed on a device. Meaning they are added, enabled, disabled or deleted. All these components need to be considered to effectively and securely manage eSIM devices over-the-air. [email protected] https://www.workz.com/iot-solutions/remote-provisioning/

How do you ensure eSIM security?
By 2023, the eSIM market will be worth around ONE BILLION dollars But the impact of a single data breach can run into millions. Ouch. So how do you ensure eSIM security? The GSMA’s Security Accreditation Scheme sets out stringent security standards across the manufacturing and management of eSIM. Specifically: eSIM production eSIM personalization and eSIM remote provisioning These deliver three key benefits: One. Increased security - adding reliability and lowering business risk Two. Interoperability - ensuring universal and cost-effective compatibility across systems and devices And three. Future-ready - meaning the solutions you build today work with the devices of tomorrow. Network operator's most frequently asked questions on consumer eSIM
In this video we answer network operator’s most popular questions regarding the growing consumer eSIM market. Are you looking to capture new eSIM users on your network but have a few questions? Here are some of the frequently asked questions regarding consumer eSIM remote provisioning and how to get started: What devices work with your solution? All consumer devices with GSMA-compliant eSIMs – this is pretty much all your devices you see on the market today including those from leading manufacturers such as Apple, Samsung etc. Can you provide a demo before I go ahead? Sure, we can provide a demo with our devices or your own devices using our own network connectivity so you can see exactly how things work. Do I need a GSMA-approved hosted solution? No, but a GSMA-certified solution is recommended to guarantee a fully interoperable and future-proof solution. Do I need to work with an Apple-approved partner to connect Apple devices? To be able to provision Apple devices, you do not need to work with an Apple-approved partner, however, if you would like to use the Entitlement Server then this is a requirement which our solution provides. Do I need an Entitlement Server? This is not required for iPhones but it is mandatory for provisioning the Apple Watch. Can subscribers use the same number across devices? Yes, this simply works the same as it does currently using the existing number portability process. What happens if the subscriber deletes the profile? Once the profile is deleted it returns to the secure profile pool database. For the customer to reactivate the profile they will need to contact the operator so the DP+ can be updated with the matching ID and the existing QR code can be re-used or a new QR code assigned. Can a subscriber use the same QR code to re-download a profile, for example, to a second device? Whilst this is not part of the GSMA specification it is possible and can be done based on your requirement, however, it’s important to note that a profile can only be active on one device at a time, therefore, it must be deactivated on the previous device first. Can I restrict users to just my network profile? No, GSMA-compliant eSIMs enable multiple profiles to be provisioned. Is your solution secure? Absolutely, we are certified by the GSMA’s Security Accreditation Scheme and ISO 27001 and guarantee the highest level of information security having securely managed over ten billion connections without a single security breach. Can I have dual suppliers? Yes. Workz offer a non-proprietary and full interoperable solution enabling you to fulfil dual or multiple supplier functionality just as you would for traditional UICC SIM requirements.  Do you offer remote SIM provisioning for M2M eSIMs? Absolutely, we offer a specialised M2M solution to cater to the M2M architecture and its requirements with profile development and testing, a cloud-hosted SM-DP and SM-SR platform with remote SIM provisioning services. How do I connect eSIM devices to my network?
It is expected that there will be over 1.4 billion connected eSIM devices by 2020 from smart phones, watches, glasses, cars and much more. In addition, the owners of these devices represent super-high ARPU subscribers to network operators. So what you’re probably wondering right now is… How to connect eSIM devices to your network So, how can I connect eSIM devices? Luan Reineck, Regional Sales Manager To offer connectivity to all consumer devices with GSMA-compliant eSIMs, you will need eSIM profiles for provisioning. For us to create these we simply need operator input files, transports keys and profile data as we would for a traditional SIM. How does Workz help? We provide a Remote SIM Provisioning solution, or “RSP”, that enables operators to connect their customer with growing number of eSIM devices. We provide eSIM profile development and testing, cloud hosting platform and QR codes for subscriber activation. How do I go live? Going live is a three-step process: Step 1: To start, we will need the operator input files, transport keys and profile data. We can then generate output files, profiles and QR codes for you to test. Step 2: Following your testing and approval we will require final input files to generate live profiles. We will also provide QR codes for each profile to support subscriber activation. And Step 3: Go live, you’re ready to offer subscribers eSIM connectivity. How long will it take? We can get you ready and able to connect eSIM devices in as little as 2-4 weeks. This would be using your existing subscriber registration process. We can also provide enhanced integration but would recommend this as a phase two implementation. What are my hosting options? We provide a GSMA SAS-Subscription Management-certified cloud solution with hosting options in London. Hosting options in Amsterdam and Dubai will shortly become available. Why should I choose Workz? The solution we offer is uncomplicated and transparent. We offer the fastest to market implementation, with no large setup costs, equipment or other CAPEX expenses required. Billing is done monthly and is based on the number of active profiles in that period, so you only pay for what you use! The impact of eSIM & eUICC for network operators - What’s an operator’s best bet in IoT part 1/3
Consumer vs M2M – What’s an operator’s best bet in IoT? This is part 1 of a 3-video series looking at the eSIM and eUICC. The eSIM has several characteristics that device manufacturers find highly beneficial: it is smaller, lighter, offers greater durability and can be sealed directly into devices, allowing them to be fully waterproof. The eUICC software allows the SIM to connect to any network with profile additions, updates and deletions managed over the air. We believe that these advantages will stimulate an uptake in the adoption of these technologies in the next 1-2 years, particularly, in the automotive and fleet tracking verticals. Nonetheless, McKinsey & Company has reported that the traditional SIM card will still dominate the market for the next 5 years at least. The reasons for this are twofold: firstly, legacy technology is unable to be physically adjusted for an eSIM and, secondly, design changes are required in new devices to accommodate the eSIM, along with the R&D and market testing that goes with it. Because of this, the GSMA only expects to see a substantial revenue growth for the embedded SIM from 2022 onwards as it is introduced into new devices on the market. Consumer vs M2M market - What’s an operator’s best bet in IoT part 2/3
Consumer vs M2M – What’s an operator’s best bet in IoT? This is part 2 of a 3-video series looking at the eSIM and eUICC. So how will the gap between legacy systems and the new eUICC technology be bridged? The traditional SIM card can be loaded with eUICC software, meaning that legacy technology can be retrofitted the remote provisioning capabilities of the eUICC. The adoption of the eUICC into different verticals brings many rich and exciting opportunities for operators. Cellular-connected devices are expected to increase to nearly 12 billion in the next 5 years, with mobile data traffic forecast to grow a whopping 700%. We believe that much of this growth will come from the business M2M market as the specifications are defined and are already in use in many industries. Enterprise customers place great value on quality of service and are willing to pay a premium for business continuity. Learn more https://www.workz.com/mobile/esim/

How Workz give you eUICC capabilities - What’s an operator’s best bet in IoT part 3/3
Consumer vs M2M – What’s an operator’s best bet in IoT? This is part 3 of a 3-video series looking at the eSIM and eUICC. Workz has been in business for over 20 years supplying SIM cards and, in addition, we will now be able to provide eSIM production to mobile network operators and OEMs as well. We offer a variety of chips with various industrial grades. We’ve got the classic M2M, the industrial or the automotive range. We offer a remote SIM provisioning solution that is compliant with the GSMA standard. We provide subscription management, data preparation and secure routing. We also offer a hosted solution but of course, we can also offer an on-premise solution if the need is there to have it onsite. We offer the operators a controlled environment, basically, a sandbox where they can actually test the system and make sure that everything is implemented and interfaced and integrated into their business support systems so that there are no issues with the live implementation. So, for operators to get started, it’s actually the same as a normal SIM card. You need to have the network keys, the transport keys and the data input files. We can then do the data preparation, build a profile and actually personalize this on a removable form factor so you can easily test it with existing devices, however, we can also do it with an eSIM but then, you can basically test the system with those SIM cards. Workz offers an independent system that can basically work with any supplier operating system. So, whether you use our operating system, whether you use our platform, it doesn’t really matter. We’re vendor neutral and very cost efficient. And basically, I think what we have shown in the past, as well, is that we provide an excellent customer service and delivery in the timelines required according to your requirements. Crush opex, boost quality
Crush opex, boost quality In this interview, Robert Varty, Head of Sales at Workz Group offers solutions for telecom operators to reduce their opex without diluting the brand experience. The no.1 challenge In my role, visiting 60 operators in 40 plus countries, a lot of the challenges that I’m seeing from the operators today is the challenge to reduce opex. 3 areas to slash costs When working with operators and the conversations that I’ve there are multiple ways that they can look at reducing their opex. Primarily I would see this in three areas: number one is by optimising the supply chain, number two is optimising the packaging and number three is optimising the logistics. Detail is key By diving into the details of the supply chain operators can increase efficiencies and, ultimately, reduce costs. Dual savings By working with our operators it’s clear to see that they are under pressure to reduce their carbon footprint. A very simple way this can have a knock-on effect to reduce their opex is by moving them from a plastic pack to a paper pack. Less is more A trend in the market that we have seen is that operators are putting more emphasis on making their packs smaller and more sleek and ultimately reducing costs. Reduce costs, not quality By using our unique technology, Workz is able to print user guides and labels on the actual pack itself. Therefore, removing unnecessary costs and making the pack sleeker without compromising the brand experience. The packing spec Optimising the packaging spec for an operator is key. It’s an area they can reduce their opex significantly, the material used, the no. of products per crate, optimising all of these reduces the opex. Even as something trivial as reducing the size of the label can help optimise the packing spec. The winning formula Making changes to your packing spec is ultimately like making changes to a Formula One car. Making multiple tweaks makes that car go faster, in the same way, making multiple changes to a packing spec actually reduces the cost. The result Operators have seen savings of over 20% by optimising the supply chain through our recommendations. Workz’ all-in-one SIM packaging and 3-in-1 repluggable SIM cards guarantee optimal, eco-friendly and cost-efficient solutions. Scratch card success secrets - Workz Group
What makes a good scratch card? Malcolm Keightley, Head of Factory Operations at Workz Group reveals the key elements, technology and techniques employed in producing a high-quality scratch card. *What’s important? The key elements? I think it’s all about getting the PIN to the customer. A layer of protection is absolutely fundamental, the clarity of the digits so it’s easy to read and the ease of scratch so that the card isn’t destroyed in the process of actually removing the panel. It needs to be aesthetically nice, the artwork needs to be good and the printing needs to be clear. *The right ingredients The process starts with the inbound testing so it’s about getting the materials right in the first place. The selection of materials, the selection of boards, the selection of inks and all the right elements go together to make the right product. *Making it look good The artwork, as I say, is paramount to the look of the card. The quality of the artwork starts with the plate and the origination. We use the latest technology from Kodak, using the very best inks that can be provided. The image quality is second to none, it approaches anything that the market can currently produce. We have the latest test equipment built into the press which is able to spot a defect down to a few microns within the artwork. *Ensuring performance We’re checking the over-scratch performance with a scratch tester. We use the same equipment to test the ease of scratch and, as I said, ease of scratch is important, as the easier the PIN is to scratch the more readily the PIN is exposed, without being too aggressive with whatever you’re scratching it with. *Data integrity Then we have the camera system that reads every PIN and every serial number. The camera doesn’t expose the PIN number; it shows an error but it will not, actually, expose a readable PIN number. *Protecting the PIN Security is about, in most cases, the opacity of the product so the card can be attacked in a number of ways. One is that the board can be split usually either with water, alcohol or something is applied to the back. The board is then removed down to the ink layer then often with some products it’s possible to read the PIN number from the back. With our product, because of the construction, it doesn’t matter how much board you remove you can never reveal the PIN because the PIN is concealed within the ink layer. *The outcome We’re producing the best product in the market at a very competitive price, we’ve not compromised on the quality, the quality has gone up significantly but we’ve driven down the costs in general. How is security printing changing? Workz Group
In this interview, Malcolm Keightley, Head of Factory Operations talks about the cutting edge technology that is revolutionising telecoms and the security printing industry. *What’s key in secure printing? The key is in getting the groundwork right, getting the basics right so if you start with a firm foundation then you have something to build on. It’s about buying the right equipment, it’s about making sure that you have got the right systems in place, operating practices that are robust and make sure that we do the same thing in the same way every time but I think most importantly it’s about the people and basically trying to surround yourself with excellent people. *What’s your latest investment? It touches all areas from the QC lab equipment, we’ve just brought a new tester for overscratch performance. We, actually, brought our ink mixing in-house because we found that we can control the quality of the product. The data printer was upgraded, that was a quantum step in terms of the print quality of the PIN variable data. On top of that, we have, actually, had a new artwork verification system which checks the quality of the print on the back and front of the card, that will check down to a few microns in terms of print issues. Also the security, we have just installed a whole new security system, we have new cameras covering all aspects of the process from warehousing through to finished product. *The evolution The product is evolving, we are seeing less customer complaints, I think we have less issues and on the back of the feedback we get from the customer we then build that into the next generation of the product we put out on the market.
